I was widowed at the age of 30, returned to graduate school where I completed a doctorate and dissertation on adjustment to bereavement.  I have taught educators and counselors at the university level for 20 years, including classes in death and crisis management.  I am a health education specialist and death educator. My 17 year-old son died in 1987 as the result of a car accident.  Both parents and a younger brother are deceased. As director of a traumatic loss center for 15 years, I helped people put into practice the lessons I learned in the "School of Hard Knocks", and from my degrees at Berea College, Eastern Kentucky University, and the University of Tennessee.

My workshops combine a "head" to "heart" approach. The response is immensely gratifying.I have trained professionals from schools, mental health centers, hospitals, police, fire, EMS departments, churches, corporations, colleges and universities in 42 states since the RENEW Center was established in 1990.

NUMEROUS ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES CAN BE PROVIDED UPON REQUEST INCLUDING PROJECT DIRECTORS FOR THE READINESS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT GRANTS.
