Suicide Prevention, Intervention, Postvention

Participants in this workshop will receive powerpoints, handouts, and a site-based license for use in training staff in their individual schools.  They will also receive sample screening surveys, confidential record keeping forms, anti-suicide contracts, and sample crisis protocols for suicide ideation, threat, attempt and completed suicide.

OJBECTIVES

Participants will be able to:

Describe the prevalence of suicide (rates, methods, sex, age, changing trends)
Screen for risk factors (physical, social, mental/emotional, life events)
Contract with at-risk individual, refer for intervention
Provide continued support and assistance with transition back into the system
Identify bereavement issues (survivors’ grief responses appropriate helping behaviors, appropriate remembrance activities)
Adapt crisis response protocols (Ideation, threats, attempts, completed suicides)
